Girls Give Rugby a Try
Updated: Feb 19, 2020
As part of the Mayflower 'Get Active' Programme, we are focusing on promoting and developing rugby within Plymouth. As part of this, the Plymouth School Sports Partnership co-ordinated a 'Girls Rugby Festival' on Thursday 6th February 2020 at Plymouth Albion RFC.
PSSP invited students from Plymouth Secondary Schools, aimed at girls who have an interest in playing rugby but are new to the game. Three Secondary schools attended including: Lipson, Stoke Damerel and Eggbuckland, with a total number of 42 girls taking part in fun structured rugby activities, whilst 10 teachers took part in a bespoke workshop to increase their confidence in teaching or coaching rugby ran by the RFU.
The coaching sessions were run by coaches from Plymouth Albion and were supported by Plymouth Albion Ladies, Plymstock Albion Oaks and St Columba & Torpoint RFC, youth section ‘The Tigers'.
Plymouth Albion Ladies have a home game on Sunday 23rd February 2020 and we would like to encourage all those that attended to come and watch the game at Plymouth Albion.
This is a great platform to engage more girls into the game, thank you to all schools and pupils involved!
